Working Together To Keep Business Thriving

We are all experiencing the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. While this is a rapidly-evolving situation, NOSHOK’s top priority is keeping our employees, customers, partners, and communities healthy and safe.

Recently Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced a stay at home order for our state, and mandated all non-essential businesses to close their physical locations as part of the response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Because of the critical role that NOSHOK’s pressure, level and temperature measurement solutions provide to all of the industries listed in the Ohio Director of Health's orders, NOSHOK will remain operational to support the critical infrastructure.

We have implemented several changes to maintain the health and safety of NOSHOK employees and our community. 70% of our workforce are now operating remotely to actively comply with social distancing. The remaining 30% of our on-site workforce stands ready to build and ship customers' orders and perform daily deep cleaning procedures in our facility.

In addition, NOSHOK's business hours will be adjusted to 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Monday-Friday from 04/02/20 through 05/01/20.

While we are instituting these temporary changes to do our part in stopping the spread, we are still operating at full capacity and do not foresee any interruptions in regular business at this time.

NOSHOK Introduces Product Management Team

NOSHOK is proud to introduce its Product Management team:

  • Jeff Dillen, Instrument Product Manager
  • Rob Kress, Technical Product Manager

NOSHOK’s Product Managers collaborate to develop operating plans and growth objectives, with Jeff coordinating the business surrounding product strategy, and Rob focused on the technical aspect of product solutions.

Jeff has been a key member of the NOSHOK team for over 15 years, with extensive experience including customer support, application support, product training and regional sales management.

As Instrument Product Manager, Jeff’s responsibilities include defining market needs and opportunities, analyzing competitive conditions, and strategizing product and/or product line solutions to meet changing customer demands. 

Rob brings 28 years of in-depth experience in automation engineering, specializing in process instrumentation, valves and actuators, along with sensor engineering with a focus on pressure and temperature measurement technologies.

In his role as Technical Product Manager, Rob applies his extensive technical expertise to optimize solutions for our customers’ most challenging applications. Working closely with our engineering and sales teams, Rob is instrumental in developing customer-focused application solutions at the leading edge of innovation.

Intelligent Silo &Tank Level Sanitary Pressure Transmitters

20 Series Intelligent Silo and Tank Level TransmitterNOSHOK 20 Series Sanitary Pressure Transmitters are designed for silo and tank level applications in the food & beverage and dairy industries.

They feature a superior design that positions the pressure and temperature sensors directly behind the diaphragm, which decreases fill fluid and allows the use of a smaller diaphragm. This provides active temperature compensation at the point of measurement to minimize temperature and position error.

Turndown ratios up to 10:1 allow greater rangeability, reducing inventory requirements. Accuracies are based on percent of adjusted span, not full scale range.

Constructed of polished Stainless Steel, NOSHOK's new intelligent transmitters feature programming via a standard onboard display with no pressure source required, and are also available with Hart® protocol. These transmitters have a 360° rotatable display for flexibility and readability in multiple mounting positions.

Sanitary, Clamped-Style, ASME-BPE, Non-Replaceable Diaphragm Seals

NOSHOK's Type 12 Sanitary Diaphragm Seals are ideal for applications including food and beverage, pharmaceutical, agriculture, water and wastewater, industrial automation, marine, pulp and paper, and other sanitary markets.

These seals feature a flush mount diaphragm and all welded construction, and can be used for remote mounting of pressure instrument(s) with the use of a capillary. NOSHOK Type 12 Seals feature wetted parts and an all welded housing which are constructed of 316 Stainless Steel for strength and durability, and can accommodate process connection pipes from 1-1/2" through 3" sizes.

A clamped connection allows ease of installation and removal of the seal for maintenance and cleaning.

Pressure & Temperature Transmitter Requirements For The Food, Beverage, Dairy And Pharmaceutical Industries

Specialized, highly accurate pressure and temperature transmitters are crucial for piping, filters and tanks in the food, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical industries. Food and beverages must be produced and stored at very specific temperatures to maintain their quality and safety, so the hygienic design of food and beverage plant components that come in contact with products is essential for avoiding contamination.

Measuring instruments used in these applications must meet specific requirements, including construction material, surface quality, shock resistance and connection type.

These markets also require sensors that can withstand the rigors of clean in place (CIP) and sterilize in place (SIP) cleaning, provide rapid temperature recovery, digital outputs and utilize specific wetted part materials depending on the media being measured. CIP cleaning is used to clean the interior surfaces of kettles, pipelines and tanks of liquid and semi-liquid food and beverage processing equipment.

Most sensors in these industries utilize a flexible diaphragm as the pressure sensing element. Flush mounted pressure transmitters have no cavities and are easy to clean.

A transmitter’s wetted parts are those which come into contact with the medium being measured. The wetted parts must have smooth edges and clean welding with no small spaces where media can collect and rot. Generally, wetted parts for these sensors are constructed from 316 Stainless Steel to prevent media from sticking.

Transmitters for these industries that are designed with the pressure and temperature sensors mounted directly behind the diaphragm have distinct advantages. This design decreases fill fluid and allows the use of a smaller diaphragm to provide active temperature compensation at the point of measurement - minimizing temperature & position error.

In addition, transmitters with high turndown ratios allow greater rangeability, reducing required inventory.

Pressure flow through the process pipelines must be monitored to detect blockages in the pipes. During transportation, food and beverage products need to be contained under certain specified conditions.

Accurate control and pressure / temperature measurement of the entire process from manufacture to delivery is therefore crucial. Low temperatures could compromise hygiene and product safety, and high temperatures result in wasted energy and higher costs.

Typical Food Sensor Applications include:

Ultra Heat Treated (UHT) Milk – Billions of tons of milk are used in the production of a wide variety of products annually, including yogurt, butter, cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese etc. While the production process for each of these foods varies, they all include multiple stages of heating and cooling the milk. Maintaining consistent milk temperature throughout this process is critical to producing a high quality and safe product.

Tank Level (Storage) – Food and beverage products are stored in holding tanks during production. Accurate pressure and temperature measurement of storage vessels provides a record of on-hand inventory.

Specialty Baking – Continuous control of temperature in the very large ovens used in industrial bakeries is key to producing high-quality taste and product appearance. To achieve this, these ovens incorporate transmitters in multiple locations.
